REEF Ambassadors Mentorship 2024-2025

Date

Location

Lebanon

In October 2024, amid challenging times, REEF launched a year-long collaborative mentorship to support young environmental advocates. Building on short summer sessions in 2023 and 2024, this new REEF Ambassadors initiative takes 23 young participants from Akkar—along with displaced youth from the South—on a transformative journey of collaboration, cooperative governance, and creative activism.

A Journey of Learning and Discovery

A Journey of Learning and Discovery
From October to February 2024, through hands-on training, nature immersions, and intergenerational dialogues, the REEF Ambassadors have been deepening their understanding of environmental issues while refining their advocacy skills. Their sessions have included:

    • Exploring Ecosystems: Guided hikes with environmentalists and biodiversity experts, highlighting humanity’s deep-rooted connection to nature.

    • Creative Expression: Workshops in theater, animation filmmaking, and storytelling to bring environmental narratives to life.

    • Investigating Pollution: Practical sessions on videography and journalism, where participants created impactful films on water, plastic, and light pollution.

    • Cultural Immersion: Visits to heritage sites in Akkar, uncovering its natural and historical treasures.

Towards a Collective Project and Mission

From March to July, the REEF Ambassadors will unite to define a shared environmental cause and develop a collective project. After submitting proposals to a specialized committee, they will enter an intensive implementation phase, culminating in a final camp where they will prepare to present their work at a community event in Summer 2025.
Follow their journey on REEF’s social media as they work together to make a lasting impact on their communities and the environment!

Memorable Quotes

My participation in last year's session helped me organize a group and lead it myself.

I plan to use this knowledge by raising awareness among my family and friends about the importance of protecting marine life.

I have started talking about the program to my school and we are working on bringing the educational films in our classes to spread awareness.
