REEF encounters will be held this summer in Lehfed and Kobayat themed around biodiversity and human diversity.
As we are announcing this new edition, REEF reflects on the war unfolding in the South of Lebanon and the ongoing genocide in Palestine.
The ethnic cleansing, pollution from chemical weapons, destruction of habitats, lands, and historical monuments, magnify the loss of diversity and rob generations of their ecological and cultural heritage.
In such realities, REEF encounters will emphasize on the importance of preserving and sustaining our diverse ecosystems, to serve as a signal of hope amidst the chaos.
REEF started in 2019 as a festival combining environmental matters and cinema in the village of Kobayat, in the Akkar region then expanded rapidly to other Lebanese territories.
Building on the success of this event and strong partnerships, it has evolved into a, association that puts art and culture at the service of environmental issues in rural areas. The REEF team gathers environmentalists, activists, artists, filmmakers, and project managers.
REEF strives for promoting reflection on general interest and common good, celebrating rural life, decentralizing culture and contributing to local and sustainable development.
REEF develops different types of activities in order to raise awareness of environment issues and support new narratives on this matter.
We organize creative workshops that favor women and youth empowerment, film competitions, residencies as well as waste management awareness activities.

Oakenfest is an independent music and camping festival that combines arts and culture with eco-consciousness and local tourism. It takes place every year in a family-owned-and-run oak forest and camping site in Lehfed, Mount-Lebanon.
