Michelle is a multifaceted artist and filmmaker from Lebanon. Since 2011, she and her sister Noel have been creating satirical socio-political music videos, which they write, perform, produce, and sometimes direct. In 2023, their debut short film, “Les Chenilles,” written by Michelle and co-directed by the sisters, won the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the Berlinale, making it the first Arabic film to receive this prestigious award. The film’s success continued worldwide, earning awards such as the Golden Star for Best Arabic Short Film at the El Gouna Film Festival in Egypt, the Audience Award at the Champs-Élysées Film Festival in France, the Jury Prize at the Mizna Arab Film Festival in the USA, the Jury Award at the Malmö Arab Film Festival in Sweden, and the Scarlet Pomegranate Award at the MENA Festival in Canada. It was also pre-selected for the César Awards 2024. Michelle is currently developing several projects, including an animated feature film for adults titled “Ouzkourini” and “AMARA,” her first live-action feature film. In 2021, “AMARA” received support from the CNC’s Aide aux Parcours d’Auteur for research. Since being selected for a writing residency at La Cité des Arts Paris in 2019, Michelle has been living partially between France and Lebanon.
