“My Beloved Country” by Salwa Jaradat

Salwa Jaradat takes us in a journey of to spaces of identity and belonging where she voices out the land, the conscience, the human being, and the homelands. With her musicians, Salwa celebrates the second day of REEF encounters with a bouquet of songs from her own works and from the Arab musical heritage.

Salwa is a Palestinian-born Beirut-based vocalist, with over ten years of training in Arabic classical and folk, and western classical styles. Currently studying music at Holy Spirit University Kaslik, Salwa has performed in numerous ensembles throughout Beirut, as well as for theatrical productions. In addition to her work as a singer, Salwa has worked as an coordinator with the Tamer Institute for Community Education in Ramallah where she has organized trainings, conferences, women’s rights campaigns, and book launches, amongst other events. She also teaches music classes for children, organizes creative activities for youth, and leads educational initiatives within the Palestinian community in Beirut.
