Animation film for Youth

Young creatives at REEF dive into the fascinating world of animation, crafting short films inspired by the environmental insights gained during their training. Through hands-on workshops, they explore storytelling, stop-motion techniques, and sustainable art practices, turning environmental themes into compelling visual narratives.

Animating Recycled Waste (2021)

In 2021, the REEF Animation Workshop welcomed 13 young talents from Akkar to explore stop-motion animation. Participants learned how to write, create, and animate their own short films using collected and recyclable materials, reinforcing ecological awareness. Their animated shorts were screened at REEF Encounters, showcasing the power of creativity in environmental advocacy.

Trees and Forests (2022)

In partnership with The Youth Animation Platform (YAP) and AFAC (The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture), filmmaker Fadi Syriani led an animation workshop centered on the theme of “Trees and Forests.”
Twelve young participants (ages 14-18) collected tree leaves and natural elements during a guided hike, later incorporating them into their animated films. The workshop resulted in three short animations, which were premiered at REEF Encounters 2022.

Environmental Transformations & Water Pollution (2023)

Expanding its reach to Hermel – Baalbeck in 2023, REEF partnered with YAP to host an animation workshop exploring environmental transformations and the pollution of the Orontes River. Twelve participants crafted stop-motion films that captured the impact of pollution on water ecosystems. These powerful animations were showcased at REEF Encounters in both Akkar and Hermel, amplifying youth voices on urgent environmental issues.
