Since 2013, the Oakenfest has been showcasing the alternative music scene of the Arab world in the natural setting of the Lehfed oak forest.
In 2024 and for the first time REEF was a guest at this festival and set up activities aligned with its missions and adapted to the festival’s specific audience.
Two film screenings were curated by REEF for the Festival :
– “The Third Rahbany” a film by Feyrouz Serhal that sheds light on the life, career and legacy of Lebanese composer Elias Rahbani
– “Coming home” a short documentary by Naim Naif & Margot Bowman about Freedom Dabka Group, a group of Palestinian-American performers.
Two educational hike and promenade in the Arz Jaj Cedar Reserve were both supervised by mountain guides and experts brought by REEF.
A waste management operation for the festival included sorting all waste sent for recycling. This initiative, handled by REEF’s permanent collaborator in this field, the engineer Ziad Abi-Shaker, aimed to reduce the festival’s environmental footprint and promote sustainable waste practices among attendees.
