The 2022 short film competition was under the theme of Solidarity. Nine films by young Lebanese and Syrian filmmakers were selected. They reflected on how individuals effectively work together to adapt to emerging socio-ecological disruptions and how collective initiatives reposition, support and sustain communities. These films were showcased at the historic Silk Factory during REEF Encounters 2021, where a distinguished jury of cinema professionals from Spain, Europe and Egypt convened to honor two winning films and grant a special mention to one other. Beyond the physical screenings, the selection was also made available for online streaming on www.aflamuna.online, allowing a wider audience to engage with the films. Viewers had the opportunity to cast their votes, ultimately deciding the recipient of the coveted Audience Award.
